The owner of this expanding air conditioning and mechanical company in Watford proposed a plan to double the floor space in a neighbouring industrial warehouse which he had recently acquired for accommodating more staff. Over the recent years his team has expanded far beyond saturation point and creating more space was urgently required.
Drilling into the design of this mezzanine which was carried out by our MD Nathan, he specified the mezzanine to suit a load capacity of 3.5kN per m2, which is perfect for office environments. He also worked closely with an interior designer and positioned the columns to hide within the stud walls. The metal steelwork was to be left exposed and painted grey with intumescent fire protection paint.
The steel staircase was specified with smooth closed treads for the application of carpet tiles to be installed over the top which ultimately provided a more homely feeling. Grey RAL 7032 was specified to all the exposed structural steelwork. With spray facilities in house this was not a problem for our own team of fabricators.
The delivery was made early on Saturday morning ahead of the snowfall that was due to land in the afternoon. The following day the mainframe was standing and the decking was starting to be laid and at this stage there was 3 inches of snow in the car park! This could have caused serious issues for the project if we had not planned ahead of the weather forecast.
The installation was complete completed in two days, leaving the customer extremely satisfied with the additional floor space which had now be created in such a short space of time and minimal distribution to their business. On this occasion the client had an existing relationship for the office fit out. However, we do cater for the full project under one roof at CICS and we are excited to see the finished office photos once completed.
