The owner of this business chain reached out to CICS for a light weight storage mezzanine floor to increase their capacity in a commercial property which they were developing near Totton in Southampton. The project consisted of a mezzanine floor with a finish floor level of 3200mm, one general access staircase with a mid landing and a utility staircase with a top landing to replace the existing. The importance of completing the works within three weeks was made clear from the initial site survey in order to obtain the work. Initial thoughts with the work load at the time was this task seemed like an tough ask, however with some careful operational planning in the factory we were able to satisfy the requirements within the time constraints.
The columns were positioned in such a way that the client could build a key clamp rail system on the ground floor to optimise the storage capacity of their products. Another consideration was the direction of the purlins that helped to ease the lifting process of the product into position. Although their product was very lightweight, it was large and an unsteady shape.
The end user opted to use the key clamp handrail system that works perfectly for the application above. However, here at CICS we can supply a complete variety of handrails to suit retail, storage and office. Our standard storage handrail is based on a square hollow section post and circular tube handrail which is bolted direct into the 38mm chipboard decking and steel structure on the underside. The posts can be sprayed in a variety of colours depending on preference or branding styles.
Red oxide was specified on the mainframe and staircases to assist the rapid lead time. However again here at CICS we can provide other colour options to improve the aesthetics of the mezzanine in your environment. Red oxide is also best suited to mezzanine floors that are going to be hidden by 1-hour fire rated column cases and suspended or MF plasterboard ceilings.
On this project, the client had already appointed an electrician to cater for the smoke detection, emergency lighting and work lighting.
